Dallas Cowboys Nation

Got A New Outfit

It’s been almost a full year since we last updated our design, so it was time to finally get into something we can live a long time with. The last one was just a temporary solution.

So we got a tan, how do you like the new digs?

I’ll tell you, you all seem to like it a lot and I’m certain glad to see it. It’s only been a day and already there’s been an overwhelming response to the new design. Thanks.

So we’re ready to get started with the new season of football. It’s early, but you can never start football too early. We’re ready to start adding folks to our crew here and build our nation’s presence up.

We even got a new Dallas Cowboys Nation Facebook page. You can check it out and become a fan, we need more. Just use the new Fan Box on the right below the recent posts list.

We need Link Bloggers, Video Bloggers, Social Bloggers, and definitely some more Draft Analysts. We don’t care if you want to write a hundred articles or just one, we just want more fans sharing their opinions with us. You can even stick to something more simple like commenting on posts. We can’t wait to hear from you.

And you know getting started is easy—you just have to register for a free account and submit your article to us. So what are you waiting for?

Let’s show the world that the Dallas Cowboys are still America’s Team with a strong force of writers going nuts. Good times.

Why I Am Not Surprised By Dallas’ Win

After the Dallas Cowboys won the Falcons game, my good friend and fellow NFL fan voice, Dan Parzych, messaged me this: “I must say….that was one impressive victory for your Boys today. I’d say big, BIG statement game.”

This was a big statement game yes, but did it surprise me? No, it did not.

The Dallas Cowboys were under a lot of pressure. They were a 4-2 team that looked like it was hanging on by the skin of their teeth instead of the dominant team that they were in 2007 or the team that looked great at times in 2008.

They were not a bad team, but more of a team that was without focus and had mistakes instead of executions for plays.

They had not even beaten a team that had a won a game. The Buccaneers still haven’t won a game, and the Chiefs and Panthers won games after they lost to Dallas.

So, they were going up against a team that had the reigning NFL Coach of the Year, a hotshot young quarterback who was the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, the NFL’s all-time receiving tight end, a running back who led the league in rushing last year, and a receiver who had the most receiving yards last year.

Oh, and they had made playoffs too.

It was not going to be easy. Many thought the Cowboys were, to quote T.I. and Timberlake, “Dead and Gone” and were going downhill from there with a team that had just blown their chances to beat the Giants and were done away with against the Broncos.

Dallas not only won the game, but aside from two drives, they dominated the Falcons on all three parts of the game. They scored 37 points, Tony Romo threw for three touchdowns and 311 yards.

The defense had four sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. The special teams had amazing coverage and scored a 73 yard touchdown on a punt return.

Why am I not surprised though? Why am I, James Williamson, not surprised by what Dallas did to that team?

Because Dallas is capable of doing that to, if not all, most of the teams in the National Football League, and I am as serious as a heart attack when I say that.

I remember thinking to myself, before the game started, “This team is not better than us. The only way they should win is if Dallas becomes a chicken farm and starts laying eggs.”

I have watched this team for three years now. I’ve reviewed the film so many times, I’ve actually had dreams with it playing. If I didn’t know this team, then I’d be an underachieving fan voice to say the least.

These guys are special. I know they are. When they are on, I don’t think any Dallas team can compare to them.

The problem is that they don’t stay on. They are a flickering light bulb that is unreliable and that is what makes them a tough team to watch because the light bulb will fizzle out at the most inopportune time.

Look at the talent level around them.

Live Game Day Chat

Every week on gameday, we want to get some good topics going about the game while it’s being played, so we’ll open the chat that can be accessed from anywhere on the site. You can even browse the site while chatting and it won’t lose your text.

It’s a gameday only thing though so don’t forget to come back and check it out.

Tonight we’ll be discussing the Raiders and Cowboys preseason opener. See you there!

We Did It Again

Another change has come over DCNation and this time I think we’re all happier for it. Sorry for the quick changes that keep coming on the design – we had our hearts set on writing before we could even settle on the design of the site.

Well say hello to the New DallasCowboysNation.com!

MikeJenkins21.com

mjenkinsLast year Kevin Burnett maintained a blog on the Dallas Morning News website all year long. This year tight end Martellus Bennett has taken over that duty while also being active on Twitter. Tashard Choice got his new website started by announcing it on BloggingTheBoys.com. And now Mike Jenkins has taken it a step further – he’s got his blog at MikeJenkins21.com, twitters, and has done an interview with TheLandryHat.com.

Seems that more and more of these players, especially the younger ones, are branching out from the normal exposure of television and newspaper journalism and are getting quite comfortable in the social media world.

Some would say that perhaps too comfortable is the correct description after Mike Jenkins gave himself the role of starter opposite Terence Newman in his post titled “My Job to Keep.”

It was taken a little too far by some of the more mainstream outlets since he starts that blog post by saying “Heading into training camp I’m the starter at right cornerback, and my job is to maintain that position.” It’s a true statement and looks as though he’s got a good outlook on things by understanding it’s his job to keep, meaning he’s going to have to work hard and correct some of last years mistakes to keep that job.

But judging by the amount of talk that was generated by that post, it’s probably safe to say that he’s getting off to an entertaining start for us. His blog is new, only three posts to date. He’s got his Twitter page that he updates several times daily, in most cases. And really he’s just getting started. So go check him out and don’t forget that he changed his number for this year from 31 to 21, at MikeJenkins21.com brought to you by the guys at PlayerPress.

We’re Still Here

I bet some of you are wondering where we’ve been, right? Though I notice a lot of you have been reading through the archives in our absence. Just wanted to drop everyone a line let you know that we haven’t gone anywhere. Just been a crazy week.

One of us is on active duty and getting ready for deployment in October, another had a last minute trip out of town to make, and I myself was without the Internet because of moving.

Stick with us though, we’ll be getting some new posts out for you shortly.

A Cowboy Nation’s Bags

Upgrades!

Some of you may have noticed that we’re seeking some additional writers for CowboysNation.net. It’s a move inspired by my desire to provide as well rounded a site as I can for you.

The first of a few that I have planned to bring on is Phillip Baggett from A Cowboy Nation. The site has been online for just over a year now, and he’s got some edgy opinions and a solid knowledge of the 2009 draft class. This is a joint venture in which we will each “moonlight” on each other’s sites in order to expand the range of each, and both.

This is active as of yesterday, so look out for posts from Bags030404 and lets show some love for another True Blue Fan.

CowboysFanRebellion.com

It’s time for another in a series that I’ve started here, sites that wish to see a new GM in Dallas.

The reactions to each of these sites have included a mixture of support and disdain from readers of each site, as well as on other sites like www.TheBlueAndSilver.com where a member was threatened with removal from the site for posting his link. Also on www.LoneStarStruck.com where I was graciously allowed to present www.FireTheCowboysGM.com to the readers as a new contributor to the site. Thanks go out to Kelly Horn and Joe Decaro for the extra rope.

It seems that most people are in favor of sharing the idea, even if they don’t agree with it. Personally, I can think of a few good reasons not to support these sites if I were to only follow their presentation of the goal. But I choose to see it in my own way, and that has gone a long way in gaining my support for the removal of Jerry Jones as the GM of the Dallas Cowboys.

You can find my posts on the other sites in my Featured Sites archive, which where this entry is placed as well. Meet www.CowboysFanRebellion.com, brought to us by a co-owner of www.DallasCowboysCentral.com. You can also catch their mission statement on the CN.net Forums.

Their primary goal is the same as the others I’ve written about here, even encouraging people to sign the petition. They have another way of trying to accomplish their goal though, and it’s a tad beyond what I expected to see. They are asking fans that are fed up with the GM to donate to their fund, a fund that will be used to purchase a billboard ad at Valley Ranch that will display the message loudly and clearly to the Cowboys Owner. He is the only one who can make this happen. The recommended donation is at least $10, not a bad price to pay if you want to get in on the action.

The image above is a representation of what the billboard might look like once they’ve gotten enough donations collected, and I’ve got to admit that it’s a nice idea. The exposure level has been growing steadily the past three weeks for these sites, and this is just another example of how well received this movement is among many fans.
